Mont Ventoux, 1967. The cyclists climb the hill in a blistering heat. Above the tree line things go wrong. A hero falls off his bike, because he simply can’t cycle anymore. He doesn’t want to give up. The word ‘giving up’ is not part of his vocabulary. A doctor puts him on his bike again, a bit later things go terribly wrong. Alcohol, dehydration, not wanting to give up, pills, heat. Tommy dies from this combination, way too early after many victories, amongst others the Road World Championship.
